The Tsuruoka Karate Organization has existed in many forms over the years.
Starting as just Tsuruoka Karate School, the Tsuruoka Karate Federation
was founded in 1995 and was renamed the Tsuruoka Karate Organization in
2009.
Tsuruoka Karate is named for it founder O-Sensei Masami Tsuruoka, 10th
Dan. Tsuruoka Karate is not a style of Karate-Do. Its foundation is in
Chito-Ryu and Shotokan and it blends in effective techniques from many
martial arts. The goal of the Tsuruoka Karate Organization is to improve
communication between well established provincial Tsuruoka organizations
across Canada, while at the same time offering a sense of unification for all
karate-ka (students). "Learning budo or bushido through camaraderie" is the
underlying goal that all members try to achieve. Sport karate also plays a part
of our development, but is meant as a recreational break from the everyday
rigours of hard training.
We are a very proud and unique organization by the fact that our roots trace
directly to the founders of traditional Karate-Do in Japan and Okinawa. Karate
was founded in Canada by O-Sensei Masami Tsuruoka in 1957 and he is
recognized as the "Father of Canadian Karate."
Tsuruoka Karate Organization is dedicated to the continuous development of
Karate and it's students. In 2008 O-Sensei Tsuruoka celebrated 50 years of
karate instruction in Canada. O-Sensei Tsuruoka is still learning and still
teaches regularly at various dojos in Toronto, Ontario and conducts clinics
across Canada.
